Suffolk Consultancy ‘Designs Bugs Out’ of Hospital Equipment.
‘Design Bugs Out’ - A joint national initiative between the Department of Health and the Design Council to initiate innovative designs for healthcare products, nears completion at the end of April, with the unveiling of prototypes in London.
Award winning product design and development consultancy Minima Design, based at The Technology Centre in Framlingham (FTC), won the brief to completely rethink the hospital porter’s chair – a piece of equipment which has seen little change for 40 years.
On April 28th from 5-7pm businesses in the region will be given the opportunity for an exclusive insight into this innovative prototype and see other ground breaking technology, at an open-house event hosted by FTC.
Following the London Press Launch Alastair Kingsland, Design Director at Minima will head straight back to Suffolk to reveal the creative design processes involved, from winning the brief, through rigorous hands on research into existing chair designs, right through to prototypes and consideration of manufacture.
“The aim of the project” says Alastair, “ was to design hospital products to be easier and quicker to clean – helping the fight against hospital acquired infections. We have had tremendous support from both Ipswich Hospital and James Paget Hospital in Great Yarmouth and the resulting Design has already caused a stir within the NHS. I’m delighted that the FTC Business Club have collaborated with the business innovation community, the Norfolk Network, to organise this showcase for the Eastern Region.”
The open house event will include a tour of the £2.5 million building and there will be plenty of opportunity to chat directly to Alistair and network with other forward thinking businesses, over a buffet supper.
Places will be limited so avoid disappointment and book your ticket now at www.norfolknetwork.com/product
